The Secret of Freedom: A Family's Unfinished Business

The Secret of Freedom is the inspirational personal account of a WWII US Prisoner of War, held captive in the Philippines & Japan, and his family's unfinished business to publish his manuscript, POW 529. George F. Mero found himself on his first tour of duty in the Philippines when WWII was declared. Three and a half years later, he and his comrades were freed. Although he never spoke about the war, his family found his manuscripts, after his death. Thus began a family’s twenty-year journey to complete their unfinished business. The book includes the original POW 529 manuscript, a prologue, historical research with internet links, veteran-related information including medals, memorials and photographs of artifacts, an epilogue featuring a Photographic Essay of his life with period photographs, stories by his son and two daughters, a collection of practical teachings based on lessons learned from George F as well as a composite of reflections by thirty individuals, ages 14 to 84 on freedom and the secrets to finding it. Available in B&W and Color.

5Number one of suggested books to read...  Jul 12, 2010
By Dan Smee
I highly recommend that everybody read this book; it is truly an amazing story and an inspirational journey told by one of America's hero's. I had the pleasure of meeting Ed and Aurora Mero at the Freedomfest. Their book "The Secret Of Freedom" A personal account written by their father who was a POW for three years during WW II. It is awe-inspiring and is number one on my list of suggested books to read... Buy it- you will be happy that you did!

5Appreciating The Secret of Freedom  Apr 19, 2010
By M. DeMartini "PR Professional"
The Secret of Freedom is a "quick" read, though its message will stick with you forever. The bravery and strength shown by this POW demonstrates the valor of all of our troops, but most of all, those who paid dearly with their bodies and lives for the freedom we enjoy today. George Meros' story, as re-counted by the letters found by his family, is like having a conversation with an old friend who tells the stories he could not even share with his family while he was alive. He tells with candor of the horrors that he and his comrads lived and I wonder how those brave men existed for 3 years, waiting with confidence for the US to win the war against Japan and come get them. Thank God we did and that Meros' family preserved his "unfinished business" in publishing this book.

5Great book - mandatory reading by all  Mar 04, 2010
By G. Harned
The Secret of Freedom is one book that should be mandatory reading by all high schools students! This book is the actual diary and account of one of America's WWII heroes, what he witnessed and how he survived his captors during his 3 ½ years as a POW. There were many times he faced death by a brutal enemy, not knowing if or when he might be killed, and somehow he managed to survive. He showed the enemy, and all of us, how a true American live and fight for freedom. All who love freedom should read this book so that they can know what the price for it was. Not all heroes died in WWII. Some survived and simply went on to live normal non-glorified lives among us not asking for any recognition or reward.

It is because of the courage of men, like George F. Mero, a whole generation, including myself, were, and still are able, to enjoy prosperity like no other generation. It would have been a real honor to have met Master Sergeant Mero. He is really a true american HERO. We all owe him, and all those who fought the wars to preserve our way of life, a huge debt of gratitude.

5A Literary Book of Merit on The Secret of Freedom  Dec 14, 2009
By Claude Daigel
This book is a wonderful tribute to a man and his family. The compassionate wisdom and empathy accompanying the words of freedom should make this literary work a definite must read for Oprah's Book Club. Are you paying attention Harpo? I extend my blessings to all the many American men and women who have served and continue to serve in our armed forces all around the world.

Respectfully,

Claude Daigel
