 Helpful, but left me more confused. Jun 26, 2008
This book has plenty of useful content. It is however mostly devoted to the author's take on card meanings and card combinations and how they are used in her "no layout" system of using the cards.
The organization of the book made it very difficult for me personally to read using her method. In many cases I was uncertain if something referred to a time frame, an attribute or possibly both. I did not know if I should always combine the cards and interpret these meanings (which in many cases did not fit well with the question I posed) or interpret them alone? Towards the end I felt less confident trying to read for myself and was more and more wondering if I was not correctly charging "key" cards (as the author suggests) or possible asking my question the wrong way. I felt as though I was nagging my various Lenormand decks for secrets they simply did not wish to reveal. The book and I were also developing a very co-dependant relationship - I was unable to discern the message of the cards unless it was by my side - so I decided to walk away and continue my quest for understanding elsewhere.
I felt that the book made little to no emphasis on the reader attempting to tap into and trust their own intuition which is so vital when reading any oracle, be it Tarot, I-Ching, playing cards, ect... More often than not I felt I must have been doing something wrong which was why I could not coax the Lenormand to reveal the information I sought.
I think this book is a fantastic starting point for a beginner with no previous experience or knowlegde of the Lenormand. If you have dabbled in these cards before, it may (or may not) leave you baffled as I was. It is refreshing to see a book in English about this very intriguing little deck of cards. Sadly, it did not work well for me.

After trying to make headway with the regular tarot deck, which I found to be too impersonal for me, I was delighted to come across Sylvie Steinbach's book about the Lenormand Oracle. The book is easy to read, with every possible card combination most clearly detailed and explained. It has a great structure and I especially love the last part containing the 7 secrets, which perfectly explain the different ways to use the cards and how best to prepare for a reading.
After getting myself the specific deck of cards, I was amazed at the precision and insight offered by the cards when used in conjunction with Sylvie's book. It really helps strengthen one's own intuition and to trust more in following one's heart. A great guideline! Now I finally have access to the personable approach I was always looking for with Tarot in the form of Sylvie's absolutely wonderful book. All I can say is: never leave home without it!

The actual secret of the Lenormand oracle is to think for yourself - what does, say, the Dog card mean to you? Combined with, say, the Bouquet? How does this relate to your question? Very simple. You don't need a book padded with 160 pages of combined meanings. You don't need to line the pockets of some "life coach" from La La Land.
Pure bunk-o.

I'm still reading this book, but it's very good. It's practical, geared toward the work-a-day world, business, and romance. It balances well with Mario Vento's book, which comes from the perspective of an Umbanda practitioner and is more spiritual. I haven't tried her "no lay out" spread yet, but that is her focus. I would like to see more on the actual mechanics of reading the traditional spreads, but I wouldn't be surprised if I wind up using her non-layout method the most. I reccomend it.

I have been studying and working with Sylvie Steinbach's book, "The Secrets of the Lenormand Oracle", since late last Fall. I had been looking for years, for a different system from the Tarot, that would not only compliment the Tarot, but give more detailed insights. I definitely have found that with The Lenormand Oracle!

These cards have out-performed my hopes and expectations as to what is possible in divination with cards...they are phenomenal!
The readings that I have done, for friends and family, have brought up funny little details that have been born out. For example:
I did a reading for a girlfriend, who was being pushed out of her rental house because her dog had had puppies. She had managed to find good homes to all of them except one, who she ended up keeping. The landlord discovered this, and said "out!"-
To find a place, in the middle of winter, to rent, (when you have a few dogs!!) is very very difficult. She asked me to do a reading for her, asking if she would find a 3 bedroom house, with a back yard, reasonable rent, that would accept her dogs?
I don't have the specific reading any longer, but I remember that I told her,(following Sylvie's precise methods, that yes, she would find such a house that she would really like, and would stay there for a long time. The cards also said to me that she needed to check out her place of work, look at the bulletin boards, or talk to people she worked with, because she would find the place through a lucky break connected to work.
I felt as though, I had put my head on the chopping block with that one! lol My friend also reads for a second income, but couldn't read for herself. Time went by, and then lo and behold! I got an email from her thanking me profusely! She had found the perfect house to rent, with a very kind landlord. It was in a more desirable area, near all the ammenities (she doesn't drive) AND she found out about it through a co-worker at that place of employment, before the house was even listed or emptied of the tenants!!
That was a major moment for me as to the power of these funny little cards. You don't need 52 cards or 78 cards to get an incredibly detailed account. You just need The Lenormand cards, and Sylvie Steinbach's book! Sylvie's teaching thread on Aecletic Tarot Forum has been indispensable for taking this beginner to the next level. I can't recommend this teacher, and her specific methods for reading these cards, highly enough! I never thought I would say this, but they run rings around Tarot!!
I have been in awe, at some of the insights that have come forth with these cards.
If you want to get specifics, and really get to the heart of matters, discover the Lenormand Cards, and Sylvie Steinbach's book- you won't look back! :)
