Engaging to the last page Dec 06, 2005

Hat's off to L Dischler. I devoured 'The Senator' over the past three days. It is spectacular...it's got everything: despicable villains, likeable folksy heroes, love, outrageous political intrigue, wild conspiracy theory, a decidedly cerebral/geeky but approachable core (economic theory...normally a snooze fest), and the indisputable mass appeal of southern charm. I see a best-seller and a wonderful screenplay for a movie. This has the potential to spark mass public interest and dialogue on the theoretical underpinnings of free trade policy the way that Creighton's Jurassic Park sparked mass public interest in DNA, cloning and dinosaurs. Kudos!

4.5 Stars! Dec 26, 2005
By Detra Fitch A little over a year ago Paul Kennedy's reputation was thoroughly smeared. Paul is now a FORMER journalist, marketing manager, and political candidate. Drinking, fishing, and his girlfriend are just about the only things he cares for these days. But things change when a misaddressed package arrives at his little island cabin. It would turn Paul's life around ... if he survives.
Helen Thornton knows that the package from Argentina should have been delivered to someone down the street, but decides to open it anyway. Within is a manuscript about Free Trade in America. Since her father is Senator Wade Thornton, Helen found the manuscript contents fascinating. People have already died due to that manuscript and more will follow. Thankfully, Helen has enough sense to consider taking the manuscript to the Senator.
They are called the Society of Dorset. They have been around longer than you could know. They have people all over the world. Over time, they have managed to infiltrate even the White House. They are pushing America's President for Free Trade. They make the idea of free trade sound wonderful for America ... for the world. But the opposite is true. The Society of Dorset wants America's economy to collapse. They want the entire would to be under one rule. Their rule! All they have to do is retrieve the manuscript before Senator Thornton gets it, kill Helen, and frame Paul for her murder.
***** The book editor missed a few punctuation marks, but nothing most people will even notice. Everything else I can say about this novel is wonderful. The story hooked me quickly and held onto me tighter than glue. That is very impressive since I knew nothing about Free Trade. I sure do now! This awesome story will open a lot of American eyes! Author Lou Dischler created the characters very well. Readers will find them fascinating and totally believable. One word of warning, do NOT begin reading this novel until you have a weekend off and are free of all obligations. You will not want to put this gem down. Highly recommended reading! *****
