The Seven Deadly Work Sins

Metaphoric and allegoric, The Seven Deadly Work Sins (Against the Golden Rule) by Dr. George Abraham is a goldmine of information on what it takes to succeed in the modern work environment. Wildly original, this provocative and daring self-help guide blends work ethics with business management. Vigilant and thorough, thirty benchmark case studies highlight what is wrong in the American corporate environment; the landscapes of such sins as gluttony, greed, envy, pride, and more are poignantly, aptly, and accurately illustrated. Fueling a lively debate about the benefits of what works at work as opposed to what is wrong at work, the author describes the ideal work culture which heralds timely messages on purity versus lust, moderation versus gluttony, generosity versus greed, pro-activity versus slothfulness, peace versus wrath, beneficence versus envy, and humility versus pride. His powerful message is peppered with wit, rhyme, and puns to provide the reader with a few belly laughs along the way.

5Great Book for Anyone Living in the Corporate World  Nov 14, 2007
By G. Strunk
I have read other management books before, but never one quite like this. Dr. Abraham must know almost everybody I have ever worked with! For the first time I do not feel that I am just imagining these Work Sinner types. They DO exist and so do the VULTURE CULTURE he describes. I recommend this book to anyone who works in a corporation. I rate it five stars. I cannot wait for the sequel.

5A Must Buy for Everyone in Your Management Team  Dec 10, 2007
By M. Charette
I thought this book was right on point. I liked it so much I am buying a book for every member of my management team. I think Abraham's book is relevant, when it comes to helping people avoid the pitfalls of the Seven Deadly Work Sins. I especially liked his reviving the Golden Rule, which so many people have forgotten. I was a little shocked when he pointed out how the new Golden Rule is cited by many as," Whoever owns the Gold, makes the Rule." That was not the Golden Rule I was taught. It is time someone wrote a book on what the Golden Rule really means in life--which includes the business world.

In addition, I was impressed with his Bully Pulpit Sections, where he shows the Work Sinner the consequences they will face if their behaviors go unchecked. How many times have we wanted to tell people what Abraham tells them? He does not tiptoe around serious work wrongdoing, and his advice is logical, pertinent, and blunt. Parents should consider giving this book to their children to read before they take their first job, or are already working for an organization.

5It's about time !  Dec 08, 2007
By El Zorro "Jim"
This book should be mandatory reading for all college students and anyone else that wants to survive in the challenging Corporate environment we operate within on a daily basis. Dr. Abraham has finally brought to light the dark side of business: the insensitivity and deviousness of workers towards each other or of the Corporation itself. His comedic approach of naming his characters "Rusty the Lusty" or "Unique Dominique" helps illustrate his points with a bit of levity and makes for an enjoyable, yet informative read. Your career will be greatly enhanced (possibly even saved) by learning from the "School of Hard Knocks" which Dr. Abraham has distilled into this much needed, long awaited perspective on career enhancement and the landmines waiting for you. Couldn't put it down !

5Timely and poignant symptoms and cures for corporations facing ethical and moral bankruptcy  Dec 08, 2007
By E. C. Stuart
Corporations give raises and promotions based solely on the "bottom line" without any other considerations. "Crunching" the numbers to attain a "quick fix" is the norm rather than stressing more important intangible contributions such as honesty, unselfishness and good work ethic. Personal gain at any cost is sought to the exclusion of ethical standards. Our modern day business world, while robust and thriving from a financial point of view, is teetering on the brink of bankruptcy from a moral and ethical point of view. This dilemma is succinctly identified and addressed in the 7 Deadly Work Sins against the Golden Rule by Dr. George Abraham. Sometimes the truth hurts when one examines himself in the way he conducts his business or leads his life. Dr. Abraham's analysis of these deadly work sins not only gives the reader a "heads up" to be on the lookout for these sins but more importantly, he gives him the virtues to overcome them. A timely read for everyone, whether it be a college professor teaching a business course at a college or university or a young, aspiring young person about to embark on a career in the jungle of corporate business.
