Concise and Insightful - a real 'keeper' Sep 21, 2011
By Keith M. Toussaint
"Health Man"
Anytime I can come away from completing a business book with a new tool I can use regularly, I consider it a very good read. "Seven Questions" did so for me.
Highlights about the book that jumped out at me:
* The emphasis on identifying a sustainable advantage - not merely any advantage was a noteworthy emphasis
* Making the mission, vision, values and goals statements `concise' and `memorable.' (not just lofty and unattainable :))
* Liked the authority matrix - akin to the RACI/OARP charts I find useful, but along a different set of dimensions
* Embracing open ended questions - seldom embraced in the business world
Well worth the read!

By Al Goldman This year I decided to facilitate our strategic planning session by myself, without an outside consultant. This book was an excellent primer. I walked in to the session prepared with dozens of open-ended questions that engaged our team in important dialogue. I was delighted that the tone, pace and content were not dictated by me but instead were set by the team...just like the book said it would be.
This book will help you get your next loan! Dec 28, 2009

Be sure to have pen and paper, or better yet a blank journal, as you read this book. After Norm sets the framework, he 'works' you through each of the questions. Filled with practical examples, each chapter then summarizes the key points and provides action steps.
This book aims to help everyone involved in business, from the small business owner to the executive or board member in much larger businesses, understand the fundamentals of successful strategy in business. And it hits the mark.
I train personal and business lenders in tax return and financial statement analysis and I can promise you, business lending will be harder in the recovery than it was in the recession. This is true whether your business had a tough two years or your best years ever. Your ability to communicate your strategic plan for moving into the recovery will be essential to getting the next loan.
I highly recommend this book as a framework for strategic planning.
