The Seven Turns of the Snail's Shell: A Novel

In Mj Roë's mesmerizing The Seven Turns of the Snail's Shell, readers are treated to a novel as intriguing as it is inspired. With imaginative twists and turns, the author has crafted a novel of romance and deception. Set primarily in Paris and Southern California, this captivating tale includes aging members of the French Resistance, the mysteries surrounding an ancient Corsican game that can turn deadly, and two people―the American writer, Anna, and her unrequited love, the dashing Dr. Charles-Christian Gérard―whose history and exploits drive this novel. Against the backdrop of the tragic death of Princess Diana, we follow one year in the life of Anna as she attempts to piece together the past and understand how love could so quickly die. Between intrigue, murder, and what could be the greatest cover-up in modern history, she learns some painful and very frightening truths. In the process, she discovers her own history. The Seven Turns of the Snail's Shell was awarded Honorable Mention in Fiction at the 2010 Paris Book Festival.

5A Well-Woven Tale Worth Your Time!  Jul 15, 2009
By Sofie Margolis
This book is a page-turner. It's fast-moving and yet loaded with delectable details of Paris; you'll feel like you are there. I loved it. In fact, at times I was literally chasing my kids around with the book open where I was trying to catch a few more pages. I agree with the other reviewer that there are a lot of twists and turns--the title is appropriate. It's an all-around good story and one of the best books I've read in a long time. One of those you just can't put down and can't wait to get back to!

This novel has all the aspects of a good read...excitement, romance and mystery. You feel like you are in France, on location. If you have ever been to Europe, you can picture the scenes, the food, the people and atmosphere. And if you haven't, the author describes everything so that you feel like you are there. The story keeps your interest throughout the book. There are many twists and turns that make the book a page-turner. It is perfect for summer reading.

5Arm-chair trip to France  Jul 18, 2009
By Glynda
A great summer read! Once you start, you don't want to stop. The romatic plot has plenty of intrigue and conspiracy to keep your interest. The detail of the streets, cafes, apts, etc. make you feel like you are in France without the stress of air travel. You can easily envison - almost taste - the food and feel the authentic French atmosphere whether in Paris, Strasbourg or the south of France and there is just enough of Southern California added for constrast.

I highly recommend the book for your summer reading.

2Too Many Questions Left Unanswered  Aug 08, 2010
By Leslie M. Ficcaglia "lficcaglia"
This was a fast-paced novel with lots of nice Parisian and rural French atmosphere, but it was uneven and seemed to be trying to do too much and cover too many areas. The ending was odd and left too many questions unanswered. It was almost as though the author's ideas had given out and she didn't want to have to deal with the logistics of the situation in which she left her characters.

5The Seven Turns of the Snail's Shell  Mar 03, 2011
By Marilyn Smith
Who says you can't have fun reading a light-hearted book? This was a total joy and at the same time took me back to the streets of Paris and some great memories of trying to find my way around this romantic city. I wish I'd had the simple clues of the snail's shell to guide me back then.
