Moving Memoir Aug 09, 2009
By Alice Chan The Sophomores, and Me is a wonderful story about friendship, love, loss, hope and Doo-Wop music. After reading a few chapters, I was curious about the Sophomores and browsed on YouTube to listen to their recordings. My favorite tune is Linda.
The author shares details of his life journey with honesty and a great sense of humor. He will have you laughing throughout most of the book. At the end, you will see how gracious he is, when he thanks someone for taking care of a very special person.

An Engaging, Honest, And Powerful Memoir Dec 28, 2008
By Todd Baptista Danny Hood, bass singer for the 1950s R&B/Doo-Wop group, the Sophomores, proves an impressive author in a first-hand account of growing up in the inner-city Boston suburb of Roxbury, his days as a touring and recording artist, and, at the heart of the near 400-page paperback, an honest, sobering look at families, relationships, and life. Hood's relaxed, descriptive style is appealing, engaging, gripping, occasionally heart wrenching, and often, plain funny. Subtitled A Love Story, the book is just that - a loving, candid, introspective volume which culminates in a reunion performance by the surviving original members at a concert awards show and, ultimately, closure and resolution in the singer's private life.
Trip Down Memory Lane Oct 10, 2010
By Jim Kirby What a great insight to behind the scenes of R&B Vocal Group Harmony now known as Doo Wop. The book was of special interest to me because although Names and Places were changed to protect their privacy I knew exactly where most places are. I met Mr. Hood and The Sophomores when their first recording was released and it was a thrill for me to read the book. I recommend The Sophomores and Me to all music lovers.
The Real Deal May 06, 2009
By Officer Clancy I would without a doubt recommend this book. Mr. Hood's story is the real deal, presenting a bird's eye view of a long gone era. His stories put the reader in the unique position of being a Sophomore and experiencing the life of an up and coming doo wop singer. His story also provides a taste of life in a gritty, yet colorful, community that was Boston's Roxbury neighborhood of that period. Slick your hair and master those steps every good back-up singer should have in his repertoire as you go through a truly enjoyable stroll down memory lane.
