5A Book Worth Keeping  Jan 21, 2007
By Vicki Woodyard "Spiritual Writer"
The Sublime Homecoming is a well-crafted and sensitive spiritual novel. Mukesh Eswaran is adept at blending spiritual principles with an interesting tale of a man in search of healing. I have read many spiritual books and have come to recognize those worth keeping on the bookshelf. This is one. If you are interested in a book that pulls together many spiritual insights in the guise of a novel, this is a book filled with both integrity and interest. You won't be sorry that you bought it.

5The Sublime Homecoming: A Novel  Jun 02, 2007
By Cecil Bethell

This is an excellent story of self-discovery by a deep student of Indian philosophy with a background in science, which has the charm of being unhampered by the demand to be morally virtuous. It's an account of an American scientist in search of meaning after the tragic death of his wife. His search brings him to India and the ashram of a well-respected swami, who counters Michael's skepticism with the wisdom of Advaita, or vedantic non-dualism, in the tradition of Ramana Maharshi. The descriptions of ashram life and the neighbourhood are skillfully painted.

After some months he has to return to America where he marries and works for many years as a research scientist for a pharmaceutical company. However, his final project to develop a new drug fails after serious side effects are discovered. Michael is sacked and is very bitter about the way he has been treated.

It is then that he experiences a spiritual awakening and realises there is no incompatability between the Universe and any of its constituent parts. His concerns fade away and he realises the truth of what the swami taught him : You are the Self.
