The Tao of Sales: The Easy Way To Sell In Tough Times

How readers describe the book: In The Tao Of Sales, Dr. Tom Behr creates a rich, comprehensive selling paradigm based on creating a genuine values-based partnership with customers. The book changes selling into something you do with customers, instead of to them, or even for them.

Behr's perspective is that the greatest value we bring customers and clients is the sense of how things work: creating balance by helping them question their own goals and solutions, expand their sense of what is possible, clarify their awareness of outcomes, and take the initiative when they are ready to buy − but not as an expert, or an opponent, just as someone they trust.

The Tao of Sales successfully translates the wisdom of a philosophy of living into a series of hands-on techniques ready to apply immediately in the customer relationship. The information is chunked so that the reader is not overwhelmed and can practice a manageable number of techniques at one time. These techniques are not found in traditional sales instruction, and yet, the behaviors are fundamental to building sustainable relationships of all types, customer, personal and professional. They remove the struggle from the interpersonal process.

Every business person knows that the old approaches to selling just don't work any more. The Tao of Sales shows readers how to succeed in a new and unfamiliar customer-driven world and guides readers along a transformational path so that they think and act in harmony with the changing times in which we live - replacing the mistrust that divides with a synergy that benefits everyone.

If you're feeling that the old ways of doing business are not serving you well, this book can help you discover your own ways of changing things for the better.

5Profound!  Jan 16, 2010
This is a profound and powerful book on sales. Let's get things straight though... most salespeople will struggle with this book. It isn't about closing, handling objections or doing an excellent presentation... it the Tao of Sales! It's a deep and resounding philosophy!!

What it will do for you is make you think differently about sales, about your clients/customers. It will help you to see your job, your role and your life differently... if you let it.

It will teach you principles to enable you to find peace in what you are doing... and in that peace exists the paradox of excellence.

For me... my head hurt after reading it... and there aren't too many sales books that have had that affect.

If you are after a quick fix sales book to make lots of money; if you're looking for another closing strategy to get the sale; if you want a method to get your way with customers... this is not for you. This book transcends those needs.

If you're ready to grow as as salesperson as a method of increaing your success, achieving more and being more... this will, without doubt, help you. It is a magical, poetic book. It is a powerful, life changing book.

Enjoy!

5"Lets the customers speak". Easy!  Sep 28, 1999
Last April 99 my wife and me were walking down the "Paseo de Gracia" in Barcelona (Spain), in a very important fair of books "Sant Jordi". When we stopped in one of the small shops on the street, we watched the titles and I were attracted by one of them "The TAO of Sales". I bought it, and when I started to read I couldn't stop. During days I were speaking about the book with my colleges in the office and my close family. I started to use some techniques with our customers. "Lets the customers speak". Easy! but difficult to do it. I found on this book a new way of relationship with our custumeres. Thank you very much at Mr. Behr, for this incredible work.

5How to make money in sales and keep your integrity.  Jan 12, 1999
A friend of mine called me to say I must read this book. He had been selling cosmetic products and not doing well. This book showed him how to stop pushing products/services or manipulating customers and how to start meeting people's needs with integrity and authenticity. The book aligns itself with the old wisdom of Taoism in a light, easy to understand way, but it is completely modern by a man who has trained many salespeople. I recommend it to anyone who has to sell their products or services to customers (or to their manager and others within a company)... specially if you want to sell better while enjoying your work in sales and get to know your customers as people, not "targets" or "market segments".

5Tao of Sales transforms the context and behavior of sales  Mar 12, 1998
The Tao of Sales makes the compelling point that new sales behavior, based upon Taoist principles, creates a dramatic change in the sales person and his or her customer relationships. Taoist principles applied to sales, transform the way the sales person thinks about the sales process and the way they are behaving in the sales process.

For example, most traditional methods for handling objections actually increase customer resistance, because they are aggressive and customers become threatened. The Tao of Sales, on the other hand, describes specific techniques which enable the sales person to listen deeply and most importantly, to observe without judgment. These techniques are not found in traditional sales instruction, and yet, the behaviors are fundamental to building sustainable relationships of all types, customer, personal and professional. They remove the struggle from the interpersonal process.

The Tao of Sales successfully translates the wisdom of a philosophy of living into a series of hands-on techniques ready to apply immediately in the customer relationship! The information is chunked so that the reader is not overwhelmed and can practice a manageable number of techniques at one time. The book mirrors what the Tao says, The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
