Beautiful And Piercing... A Must Read! Jun 02, 2010
By Sharon Raber Richard Allison has written a spiritually deep and beautiful book. In it he challenges the reader to strive for the fullness and victory that God intends for each of his children. He bares his own soul and reveals his own shortcomings as he weaves a picture of grace and forgiveness and of a loving Lord who beckons us faults and all, to his open arms. He is brutally honest in his descriptions of the human condition but reminds us constantly of the hope that is within us, our Savior Jesus. An excerpt from his book; "If you find within yourself an attraction for the claims of Christianity, and consider an attempt to squeeze yourself through the narrow, ignoble gate of salvation, try as you might, you cannot and will not stoop low enough to get your immense ego and pride through. It is God Himself who reaches His wounded hand through the gate, grabs your volition by the collar, pulls you through with a wonderfully imparted faith. On the guilty side all is dark, oppressive, and filled with dispair. The darker and more helpless the better, for the brighter and more liberating the mercy side will be, because mercy is only as high as sin is low." He is an amazing descriptive writer. This is no regular, self help, light Christian read...that kind of book is a song...this book is a symphony. Get this book, study it, bask in its truths and beauty and watch your faith grow!
