Outstanding Jun 26, 2007
By Daniel Love
"Truth Seeker"
Mr. Iammarino paints an astute portrait of these complex philosophies and lays the groundwork for what I believe to be many forthcoming masterpieces of work.
Anyone who considers themselves a student of philosophy or religion should own this book and all future works from Mr. Iammarino

Interesting Approach Mar 02, 2007
By Epaminondas
"Phil Alethes"
The author takes a unique appraoch to doing comparative studies. He breaks the work into two main sections, with the first section providing the general background and introduction of key concepts of both Whitehead and Mencius. The second section is where the comparison begins, some of the categories used for comparison include: ultimate reality, the aim of life, education theory, and epistemology. The strong points were the innovative style used and the ability to write succinctly yet comprehensively. You will get a pretty good overview of the philosophies of Whitehead and Mencius in section one, however section two the author seems to go slightly beyond the available evidence in his comparison and some parts appear forced.
Some of the weak points were that the material being presented was very complex and unless you have a fairly strong background in philosophy or religious studies you may get lost due to the brevity of explanation. The graphs provided are helpful, but are in an Appendix and would have been better used in the actual body text. Other than that, it was a nice change of pace to see some lesser known philsophers "brought into conversation."
