The Weathervane Ranch Dec 14, 2009
By Richard D. Sorenson The Weathervane Ranch is a quick, but exceptional read. If you are a lover of stories of the old West, especially those associated with Texas, then you will love this book. Cliff Hudgins, the author and native Texan, is a masterful storyteller and much like he did in his first book, Pete McNally: Texas Ranger, he interweaves Western realism, humor, Texas history, and the Christian faith into a spellbinding read. Each of the characters in The Weathervane Ranch are genuine, realistic to the time period and Western setting, and bring to life a bygone era -- an era when life was simple, yet so very complex. Living in Texas in the days of the Old West was not an easy chore, and this special author and book reveal why life on the Texas plains could be so satisfying, yet so very harsh. The tale encapsules Texas ranch life in a most casual manner, but at times, the story becomes a heart-wrenching read. The Weathervane Ranch makes for a great gift for that special friend or loved one. Buy it, read it, and reread it. Buy another and share it -- you will be glad you did!
