The Winds Between the Worlds

Mutations triggered by accidental irradiation force Joel Tranwyr and several other highly empathic caretakers to flee Earth and potential exploitation. The unscrupulous Corporation sends another exposed caretaker, Bubba Smith, and an unnatural army after them and then enslaves worlds left in their wake. Centuries later, Joel’s descendent, Gareth, seeks help from the past in an attempt to free his adopted world. The legendary woman warrior he expected turns out to be disillusioned 20th-century graduate student, Lorne McAllister. McAllister, who carries around more baggage than a 747, clashes with the Caretaker right from the start. She denies the reality of both Gareth and the nightmarish world in which she finds herself. Her grudging aid leads to a near-death experience that both emphasizes and ameliorates the fantastic nature of his universe. After Gareth’s nemesis tries to kill McAllister in her own time, she devises an ambitious plan to end Corporation tyranny once and for all.
