The Wisdom Tree and The Red Swing: Compassion in Everyday Life for Preteens and Parents

The Wisdom Tree and The Red Swing offers preteens and those who love them a unique way to work their way through life’s challenges. Encouraging young people to think their way through their problems, the Wisdom Tree guides them to some not-so-obvious revelations on issues like racial diversity, bullying, divorce, death of a parent, being the new kid in school, overweight, body image and more. Carol MacAllister engages a cast of compelling characters to weave a delightful tale and to spur tweens to find unexpected answers to their problems. The Wisdom Tree and The Red Swing is quantum physics in action: Change how you think and you change your reality. Carol MacAllister brings to her writing classical training in psychiatric social work and the wisdom she has gained through a life-long effort to understand and grow her own mind, heart and soul. She is a storyteller on canvas and has two prior books: Thinking Out Loud and Windows to My Soul. See more at http://www.carolmacallister.com

4Parents This is Worth the Read for you and your Teen  Apr 14, 2010
By Diane B. Ucci

As a former Guidance Counselor, Director of Student Counseling Services, Assistant Dean of Students, Mediator and now a Nurse, I enthusiastically endorse this book to parents and their teens for a very evolved approach to some very "Hot Topics". Carol has shown us a way to shift our perspective in situations that are real emotional activators. Her solutions for both parents and teens are lasting ones that, once you get the hang of it, can assist you in so many of life's many challenges and turn them into true, learning opportunities. I personally loved the Wisdom Tree and wish I had one for my children when they were growing up! And I wouldn't mind having one for me!

5Awesome!!  Dec 03, 2009
By Jane H. Adkinson
The author creates a warm and compassionate word picture through her tween characters and their families experiencing some of their most difficult and complex challenges. Tween readers experience peers learning critical thnking, self efficacy and problem solving skills in a caring and supportive environment. As a grandmother and a therapist I highly recommend this book - and look forward to finding out what happens in her next book!

5Not Just For Preteens  Nov 22, 2009
By NJC "NJC"
Through a series of stories focused around a group of school children, Ms. MacAllister covers a broad range of struggles we've all faced and through the gentle guidance from a wise old tree presents a fresh approach to understanding and approaching a resolution. After finishing this book I was tempted to search Google maps to find this wondrous tree.If the lessons in "The Secret" resonated for you and you are looking for a book that touches gently on these ideas from a preteen perspective -you've found it. Charming and full of heart.

5Powerful! This is a must read for pre-teens!  Nov 21, 2009
By Glenna Price

This is a charming book, powerful and inspirational. So many of the issues our young people face on a daily basis are dealt with here. Simple solutions for complex problems are presented in a unique and fresh way. This book should surely motivate further interest in the principals of quantum physics, and how it can be applied to everyday life.

1Beginner writer  Jan 28, 2010
By Elaine Haley
The premise of Ms. Macallister's book is a clever approach that addresses topics that will enlighten the reader, both pre-teen and parents. Although her ability to write reflects those of a beginner, her efforts are well-meaning and the messagea worth noting.
