Thibault and Malcolm/ A Feast for Galileo

Malcolm Hudson has been a professional chef for 30 years. However, Thibault and Malcolm/A Feast for Galileo is not a cookbook, but a full-bodied, full-blooded novel about eating. It is a work of historical fiction centered on the themes of cooking and eating and has a well-developed, liberal, worldview that passionately celebrates the earth and its bounty. It glorifies the beauty in simplicity. Written in the first person, the novel features two characters in mid-life, without the crisis. An odd couple, Thibault and Malcolm take a picaresque ride into the past (often with comic results), and cook intimate, great meals without pomp or fanfare for famous people who never got an even break, such as: Nietzsche, Liebniz, Spinoza, Erasmus, Sand, Dostoyevsky, and Galileo to name a few. Thibault and Malcolm/A Feast for Galileo celebrates the beauty, the generosity and the love that makes the craft of cooking the greatest and most honorable profession on earth.

5A must read for every culinary lover or romantic.  Sep 18, 2009
By C. Sturzl "ChefChris"
Chef/Author Malcolm Hudson has poured his experience and knowledge into a tale woven in time and cuisine. This is a truly delightful romp into complex time travel, cooking, romance all wrapped up in a sort of 'road trip' between two new friends. Thibault and Malcolm compliment each other as the lead characters in this book insulting one minute and desperately relying on one another in the next. Hudson has a wonderful hand in story telling coupled with an excellent knowledge of cooking and culture through the several centuries in which this tale winds. The romance Malcolm finds in the book is as deep as anything I have ever read. As a chef of many years myself I found this story amazing. If it is a trilogy, I desperately need the next two books.

If preparing good food for friends is the true sign of nobility, then Hudson had gone beyond nobility and given us a spectacular Feast! Every chef worth his/her toque should read this.
