A Real Triumph for Ron Chavez Jan 18, 2008
By Sandy Penny

As an editor, publisher and author for over 30 years, I can truly recommend this collection of inspirational stories by Ron Chavez. His defining moment stories of the common man facing life-changing circumstances offers insight into their choices. He asks us to deeply consider what makes a good man and presents opportunities to review and possibly shift our position on many personal and collective paradigms. As an obvious student of human nature and a keen observer of life, he tells a good story and captivates us with his characters and dilemmas. His emotions run the gamut, and give us a mirror for our own foibles. Although quite serious in most of his tales, "The Loneliest Road" shows a lighter side, while his poetry reveals his passionate nature. For a first book, Ron has set a high bar for future works. Can't wait to see his novel.

A fine storyteller Aug 02, 2008

As a transplant to the Southwest from, of all places, Boston, I am always eager to have this weird and marvelous place illuminated for me. Mr. Chavez's book does that in vivid, lovely stories. I especially like his prose, these enigmatic people, at least enigmatic to a Yankee, take on a realism and humanity that is otherwise hard for me to see in the everyday life here. From reading this book, I understand them better. I hardly identify with them, but they begin to make a kind of sense to me. He writes about a beautiful, exquisite place and, for the most part, a time long before I got here. He actually makes me wish I had been here way back when. I am reminded of Gabriel Garcia Marquez, not because Chavez's book is magical realism, but the people and places he writes about are genuinely magical, yet vividly real. Like myself, many people come here from other parts of the country and find it much like coming to another planet. Chavez's book helps make this strange planet habitable and lovable. Even if you never plan to live in the Southwest, this is a fine read and sweet fun.
