Too Too Many Tutus

Christina has a problem. Her ballet class is coming up, and she must decide which one of her many tutus to wear. She lays them all carefully on her bed to help her decide. The decision is difficult, because the colors are each so vibrant and lovely. She imagines herself inspired to dance in a unique and special way in each tutu, with each color evoking its own particular imagery. In her blue tutu she could dance by the sea, with the birds and fishes joining in. In her green tutu she could do a forest dance among the trees, and in the meadows. Her orange tutu creates images of a joyous dance in the firelight at sunset. There are other colors too, each suggesting its own special mood. At last she receives some wise counsel in solving her dilemma, and helping her to make the correct choice.

4Colorful Read For Future Ballerina  Jan 09, 2010
A rainbow color tutus are crowding a little girl's closet, but that is just how she likes it. The only problem is, she can't decide which color to wear for today's dance rehearsal.

Any aspiring ballerina would love this book. While it teaches kids colors, they also learn how to make choices. It's a very cute picture book for the young-uns.

5Stories for Children Magazine 5 Star Review  Oct 26, 2009
Reviewed by: Wayne Walker

Have you ever gone to your closet, looked over your clothes, and wondered what to wear? Christina is getting ready for her ballet class, but there are so many beautiful ballet costumes in her closet that she just can't decide which one to choose. Neither Mommy nor Daddy can help her select one, but her brother Max suggests that they lay them all on her bed and look at them together. There is a green one that reminds her of grass and leaves, a blue one that looks like the sky and the sea, a pink one the color of roses, a yellow one that matches the sunshine, a violet one that is as fresh as springtime, and an orange one that makes her think of blazing fire and bright sunsets. Each one fits a different mood, but she just doesn't know which one will be best right now. However, there is also one more. Which one will she pick?

Author Suzanne Davis Marion has produced a charming book that also has some underlying lessons in it about seeking wise counsel and finding a satisfying solution to problems. Also, there are some added benefits for very young children: They can count the tutus for number reinforcement, and they can practice recognizing colors. All the time I was growing up, my father kept telling me that black is the absence of color and white is the combination of all colors. I never believed him then because whenever I colored with all my crayons it always came out pretty close to black and when I used none of them it was white. However, what he said is true, as pointed out in this book. It's a basic physics lesson! And the soft, colorful illustrations of Marj Hale are a delight to the eyes. While the book would most likely appeal to little girls, the author says that she was asked to read it for a children's story at church, and even the little boys paid attention.

5Too Many Tutus  Oct 04, 2009
Too Many Tutus is a charming childrens book about a girl named Christina who is getting ready for ballet class but can't decided which of her tutus to wear. So she lays them all out on her bed and tries to pick one. Each tutu inspires her to dance and she imagines herself dancing in the sunshine with butterflies or among roses blowing in the breeze.

This is a sweet childrens book and the illustrations are beautiful. Highly recommended!

4Too Too Many Tutus  Sep 23, 2009
Too Too Many Tutus was intended to be on the 9-12 year old reading level but I found the topic (colors & tutus) not as thrilling for that reading level. My almost 10 year old daughter thought the book was childish and my 3 year old daughter could not hold her attention for the entire book. We enjoyed the water color drawings of the girl dancer in her colored tutu but she (daughter) ran off with 4 more reading pages to go. The story was cute but I believe that had it been a shorter version to go along with the drawings, it would have held her attention longer.

5Your little princess will dance her way through this adorable book!  Jul 18, 2009
is an adorable book about a little ballerina named Christina. She is to go to dance class but can not decide which tutu she should wear. According to her, the decision is just to great since she has too too many tutus. As any wise young person will do, she first asks her mother for help. Her mom tells her the decision is all hers. Next she asks her dad and he doesn't quite know what to tell her either, especially since he is playing with her little brother. Max gives her some wonderful advice and that leads to Christina's adventure. He suggests that she lay out all the tutus and see which one looks best. She imagines herself in each one and what she could do in them. In the end, she makes a wise choice with her mother's guidance. I thought the choice was quite creative!

My Review

I personally enjoyed the illustrations in this book. Marj Hales did a wonderful job of making this book come to life in pictures. I have always enjoyed watercolors and that's how this book was chosen to be illustrated. My 3 year old daughter really enjoyed me reading this book to her. Her 5 year old big brother even listened in. DD loved the descriptions of each tutu and what Christina had chosen to do with them. The only comment DS had to add was "Mommy, Christina might have had too too many tutus, but you have too too many books!" Out of the mouths of babes!!
