Old Dog,huge Pike Nov 28, 2011
By jiggerjohn As a serious angler for over 60 years, I subscribe to the statement, "It's difficult to teach an old dog new tricks!" Yet, I've learned the value of listening to even older, wiser dogs! George Bernstein has a decade on me, but is light years ahead on fly fishing gear and tactics for taking huge pike and muskies. In "Toothy Critters Love Flies" Mr. Bernstein expounds on a marvelous, virtually singular strategy for luring in the monsters of northern waters, almost at will. I've been mentored by other expert anglers who always warned "Beware of the fisherman who shows up at the dock with just one lure-he'll be an absolute deadly specialist who can outfish anyone on any given day!" George is just such a whiz and carefully explains every aspect of his brilliant method. He even details how to tie his key fly and gives exacting, though simple, methods for tying one within minutes. However, the many exciting trips that Bernstein ably describes and literally takes you on provides the true spirit and heart stopping excitement that separates his writing from the rest of the field. Experienced anglers will thrill to his critter by critter stories, while newbies will quickly warm to what REAL fishing is all about!
