The year is 2015, and America is determined to get tougher on crime. The hot-tempered mayor of San Francisco spearheads a controversial new mandate, the “A-hole Law,” which puts two hundred contemptible men and women onto the infamous island of Alcatraz for a one-year sentence. Their punishment is not to be locked behind bars, but to roam painfully with others of their kind in this newly renovated prison. The sorry lives on Alcatraz are suddenly laced with humor, discovery and loss. This island of misfits includes a belligerent coach, a cold-hearted corporate climber, a priest with unpopular views, a woman too bold and brash, and a lost fugitive. How will this group survive together? And how can love survive between two heartbroken islanders, who find out their past affects their future in ways they can never imagine?
