From The Stony Road To Success.. Feb 02, 2010
By T. Stokes Trod the Stony Road: A Young Man's Journey from the Mississippi to the Charles I loved this book, If you like non-fiction you will love this story. I just finished this book last night, and once I opened it I couldn't put it down. I was really enlightened by Trod The Stony Road. Mr.West narrative of growing up in East St.Louis and the Westside of Chicago. The story of a young man's struggles, survival, determination and endurance to succeed in life. A touching story as regards to how he grew up to over come economical hardships, violence, failure and the willpower to achieve.
The story being told makes you acknowledge the fact that life should not be wasted, and to live it to the fullest. I believe that this book would be loved by men and women, young and old. In my opinion the story is motivating, inspiring, and spiritual. I have the upmost RESPECT for a man who shares his journey through life with the world, telling his testimony of the good, bad and bittersweet moments through the WILL of GOD to live his purpose. I Highly Recommend!!

By Charlene Trod the Stony Road: A Young Man's Journey from the Mississippi to the Charles was a very insightful look into the author's life. It opened my eyes to a number of similar life experiences eloquently described in the book. Reading the Trod the Stony Road made me come to terms with those shared experiences that I have tried to forget - helped to shape who I am today. This was an absolute great read and I recommend all young African American Men to read this book for guidance and African American Women ought to read it to gain prospective.....
A Must Read Feb 07, 2010
By S. Harrison A poignant story of a blessed life. This is a must read for all people, but especially for the Black man, young, old and in between. Dr. West's is a life that many can relate to. While there were clearly negative forces at work, there were also some very strong figures in his life at an early age that made all the difference. And God was a constant. His story will bless you.

By L. Magsby OH MY GOD - Phenomenal. This book gives a message of hope, faith, being steadfast and trusting in the Lord. This book is awesome! I strongly encourage everyone to read it and discuss with your children the importance of conquering all fears and overcoming stereotypes and obstacles. The children are our future and Mr. West is giving them the ammunition they need to achieve greatness.
He has opened up and shared his personal life in a positive way; you never know who needs to hear(Spoken so eloquently) those words. Not one time did he disrespect women or use profanity, our children need to hear that it does not take belittlement to get the message across for someone to listen and understand your struggles and you can succeed with love and encouragement. It's not about having all of the "Bling" and the "Benjamin's". Self respect is far greater than those things combined.
Being the mother of a pre-teen, who too lives in the North Lawndale area, I've always wanted more for my child. Great job Mr. West, our children need to hear from someone who has "Trod the stony road" and understand they too can become powerful.
I applaud you Mr. West.
