Fascinating Read. Apr 10, 2010

When I first received "Unconditional Surrender", I wondered how long it would take me to read 466 pages. Not very long! I found myself sneaking off just to read one more letter written to Julia from Ulysses. These personal letters are a glimpse into a very complex man with an incredible devotion to his beloved, Julia and to his country. I found it hard to resist just one more letter...and then, one more! If I had this book in my history class in High School, I would remember so much more about The Civil War and our 18th President! If you are a history teacher, this is a MUST read, and if you are not a history teacher, none-the-less, a great read for young and old alike.

informative, educational, and engaging Jul 27, 2010
By RG This book is informative, engaging, and fun to read. It offers the truth that has long been forgotten about our 18th President. Grant's reputation has definitely been misrepresented through our history books. They say a picture speaks a thousand words. Well, so does original letters to his beloved wife, Julia. Read this book and you can decide for yourself what type of person Ulysses S. Grant really was. I am sure you will enjoy it.
