Waiting for Rick: A Caregiver's Dilemma

Waiting for Rick: A Caregiver’s Dilemma uses the author’s personal experience to reveal strategies and resources for better end-of-life caregiving. Three days after Rick Duffy lost his mother, Alberta, to a grueling battle with cancer he sat down at his computer and began to compose her story. The result is a book intended to serve as both a tribute to her life and a how-to manual for families experiencing the unique challenges of saying goodbye to an elderly loved one in failing health. With some 70 million baby boomers reaching an elderly age, more and more families are charged with the care of their parents, states Duffy. “I want readers to reflect on the quality of life of their aging loved ones,” he explains, “and to show appreciation for those dedicated and compassionate professionals working every day in the health care system.” Available in paperback and hard cover.

This is a touching account of a families struggle with the dilemmas presented by an aging parent with complications. The writing is kind and thoughtful. There is an accompanying web site and rubric for making caregiver decisions. I would reccommend this book to anyone: it's touching and a very good read!
