an adventure of a lifetime Feb 12, 2009

I found this book to be one that I could not put down. Each chapter left me wanting to see where the next would lead this young couple. Very mind intensive in the beginning and then builds into a thriller with the reality of life in a Nigeria most of us will never know. Through some very colorful characters you will experienced every emotion to an extreme. The author writes in a way that draws you into the journey along side Jane, Will and their beloved dog, Addison as they endure an adventure of a lifetime.

what a good read Feb 10, 2009

i truly injoyed this novel. i felt so close to the characters and lived the danger of the unknown land.
i would like to read more works by this author.
he has quite a talent for drawing one into the characters plight and i felt i was on the journey as well. his description of the foreign country and the cultural differences is very moving. i wanted to weep for the things i didn't know about other worlds. i wanted to cheer for the bravery that the young couple showed and their attempts to make an impossible situation better. i can't believe how i cared for will and jane and especially their dog addison.
i look forward to reading more from c.l. dahl.

By kansas42 I, too, was unable to put this book down. Admittedly it was made all that more interesting because I know Christopher and knew that the book is based on fact, that he wrote what he lived. It was an education to read about the culture of the country, the do's and dont's, protocols that are unknown to you until you are right in the middle of a situation at which time it may almost be too late. But even more, there are times when we can't let others dictate our behavior when our hearts and heads tell us there is another truth and that truth may forever change who you are.
Fascinating story ! Jun 04, 2009
By SIMON K. From it's gripping beginning to it's climatic ending, this book is a roller-coaster ride of emotions as we follow a young couple (and their hound)into the corruption, violence and broken dreams of modern Nigeria. At times shocking, this entertaining story of survival and self-discovery paints a vivid picture of a struggling nation and the effect it has on our two Western protagonists. Author Dahl writes forcefully and compassionately while eloquently describing both the natural beauty and man-made squalor of this oil-rich African country. His writing also ensures that the reader quickly takes to the slightly naive but always resourceful and plucky suburban kids who find themselves in circumstances far beyond their control. All-in-all, an outstanding debut novel from a promising new writer and one that this reader found impossible to put down.
