Walking With Presidents: Stories From Inside The Perimeter

Walking with Presidents: Stories from Inside the Perimeter, by Michael Endicott, chronicles the extraordinary career of an American original. From 1967 until 1986, author Michael Endicott sat watch over Presidents, Vice Presidents, and a Secretary of State. In these years, across a hundred foreign nations, and through every state of the Union, author Endicott carried out his duty during some of the most harrowing times of the Twentieth Century. From Vietnam, political assassinations, Presidential scandal, and retirement discussions with former President Nixon, Endicott has seen it all and has lived a life worthy of a Hollywood movie. Walking with Presidents puts a personal face on those who were protected and a very public face on the inner workings of the U.S. Secret Service. The result is a fascinating and intimate portrait of a man, his times, and the noble spirit of those who serve and protect. This is a gallant book sure to please memoir fans and history buffs alike.

The book is an easy, interesting read. It gives good insight into former President Nixon and how he lived life after resigning. The writing itself lacks color and punch - it is straightforward monologue. The ending doesn't really end. It almost seems that the author was called to dinner and forgot to return to writing. Try to borrow it or wait until the price comes down then enjoy the story.

5A Review of our Leaders from the Inside  Jun 18, 2009
"Walking with Presidents" was all I expected and more. Not only was it interesting and exciting reading, almost like a novel at times, it was a great history lesson as well. I was impressed by Mr. Endicott's details from more than thirty years ago, which gave us an inside look at our leaders not often seen by the general public. I do hope there is a second book which continues on during his time with President Nixon. Few people, other than his family, would have known Richard Nixon better than Mike Endicott. After seeing so many anti-Nixon books, it is refreshing to get a first-hand look at the former President from someone on the inside.
