The most thorough treatment of its subject Apr 17, 2009 This book delves more deeply than any other into one of the important decision-points in George Washington's military career: his choice to accept African-American soldiers into the Continental Army at the very end of 1775. It corrects one of the misconceptions that has distorted that historiography in recent decades, a misquotation of a Washington letter. The author has carefully studied not only the commander-in-chief's writings but those of his top generals and the governmental bodies and delegates he dealt with. The notes are extensive and helpful.
The book is hampered by some of the common pitfalls of self-publishing: grammatical and typographical errors, lack of clarity on some points, and limited distribution. Although the author has apparently studied under some academic experts, the book didn't go through the scholarly review process, and may therefore not be recognized for the solid research it contains.

Review of "Washington's Decision" Mar 08, 2006 I thought the book was great and very well written. The author has a distinct style which is very direct and to the point. He makes his argument and presents the facts in a very valid and direct way. I am used to history books that are often long winded and focus on drawing out only a few facts. Mr. Charles takes the approach of laying all the facts on the table and telling it the way that it is. Again very well written and a nice change from the norm of "put you to sleep" history books.
