5A great resource for parents  Nov 03, 2009

As the mother of 10 and 14 year old children, I am often troubled by the media hype that exists in today's youth culture. When I discovered "What's Hip & What's Hype", I was delighted to see that a self-help primer exists to help kids determine what's real from what's advertising. This deceptively simple book is full of profound truths about how kids can become their most authentic selves. For example, statement #1 is: "You become what you think about". This basic axiom about the power of a positive mindset is something I've always tried to impress upon my children. Sharing this book with them is an excellent reinforcement to my motherly advice.

I especially like statement #25. But, you'll have to get the book yourself to see what that one is!

5Hip and Hype  Sep 28, 2009
A perfect gift for middle schoolers! My daughter and I had great conversations about each topic, in nice bite-size chunks. We're recommending it for our parent-child book club. It's clear the author, a dad, really understands the issue kids face today and how to reach them.
