When its time to say goodbye Jun 26, 2011
By kathleen Mull Reading Ms Tote's book is like chatting with her in your own living room. Her book is large but very readable and I enjoyed it very much. Her journey with her Dad and his ultmate passing is told with warmth and humor and helped ease some of the pain of losing my own Dad.
A Very Healing Journey Oct 02, 2010
By Rebecca Mullins "When It's Time to Say Goodbye"
Is a wonderful heartfelt recollection of one woman's journey through the battlefield of the final days of life and the ultimate death of her father. Marti weaves you into her memories and shares what can happen to a person while having to face the final farewell of a most cherished friend. She draws you so closely to her heart, mind, and pain that you cannot help but fall in love with her and feel that she is indeed a dear long-lost friend. We as human beings have all felt our personal worlds fold in on us due to the stresses and demands placed upon us during our most trying times, and Marti's courage in sharing her fears and innermost thoughts through her journey is nothing less than amazing. All who have stood by while watching a parent's health rapidly decline will relate to her story and will find healing for their aching hearts, and if the reader has not yet suffered a loss of someone dear to them, they will clearly be reminded of the fact that there is no better time to tell your loved ones how you feel than right this very minute - before it's too late. A hard book to put down, a must read for any person who has a beating heart. The world needs more men like Eddie!
Dealing with loss. Nov 03, 2009
By Shirley Foss
I fell in love with Eddie, the knight in shinning over-alls, who was the best monster fighting dad a kid could ever have. Marti gives us an insight into her early childhood, and the wonderful relationship she had with her father. How many dad's have the personal phone number of God's helper, the "Man in the Moon"? Marti always felt safe with her father by her side but somehow the word divorce changed all that.
Time moves on and Marti is married with children of her own. Happily she and Eddie renewed their close relationship. Life is good until Eddie remarries and the "Wicked Witch" enters the scene. She is always hovering in the background causing this reader to wonder about her intentions.
This book speaks of many losses. The pain and confusion of divorce, the difficulty of dealing with unwanted step-parents, and finally the death of a loved one. Marti knew Eddie had terminal cancer but was unable to accept it. She prays for a miracle, questions why God would do this to someone so special when there are evil people more deserving of this fate. The challenge of caring for a parent and not robbing them of their dignity is difficult. Marti and Eddie find clever ways to deal with this among many other problems.
Laugh a little, cry a lot, but read this book.
"When It's Time to Say Goodbye" Oct 19, 2009
By Paula Gibeault What a Great Read! This book is funny, sad and a very heartwarming story about the challenges of life and the inevitable as we all go down our own Yellow Brick Roads. It is written as if Marti herself is sitting next to you. She instantly becomes your friend. This book made me laugh, cry and warmed my heart all at the same time. I really hope there will be other books to come because this is one author I am really excited to follow!
When its time to say Good Bye Oct 11, 2009
By Kathy Diaz Boy, though I have cried through some of the part of the book I have read at this point, I need to keep reading because your thoughts and feeling are put into words that I have carried for such a long time in my mind with my dad but couldn't seem to say. Thank you for your book, the words, the thoughts, and your heart felt ways....God really broke the mold when he made you...
