Very original and clever Dec 20, 2009

This book is extremely original and very funny. A friend at work recommended it to me and I can't speak highly enough of it. It is a very strange blend of high brow references and pop culture jokes. I read it on the bus in about 3 days and was laughing like an idiot the whole time. I have been googling the crazy references in the book ever since. I think it will appeal to pretty much any professional/uni student but will obviously particularly appeal to lawyers.
It it a great read, highly recommended

This book is a colossus of the legal publishing sphere - a giant among midgets. Never in my long years of reading words on the page have I felt both euphoria and terror in the same paragraph; euphoria because of the delicacy of the prose, terror at the realization that there will be no written work, in this lifetime or the next, that will subsequently come close to Whitelocke's masterpiece.
Both thrilling yet practical, searingly honest yet surprising tender, 'On Lawmanship' soars with poetic imagery, reaching heights sustained only by Miller's 'Getting Into Law' from 2001. It races along with the pace of a Cussler or a Benchley, but there are moments where one feels immersed in a Cotzee or a McCarthy, such is Whitelocke's mastery of language.
Never having studied law myself, I am horrendously unqualified to review what is essentially the most comprehensive manual for young lawyers in print today. More than just a guidebook, it is a manifesto, a tour de force, where Whitelocke has managed to impart an enormous amount of his valuable wisdom and experience into a concise, well laid out text.
I would highly recommend 'On Lawmanship' to anyone who is interested in humanity. It will be works like this that will determine our ability to function in an uncertain future. This may possibly be the most important book of all time. Plus it has pictures!
I eagerly await Volume 2.
