5A great factual history novel  May 08, 2007
By Enrique Llorente "Enrique W. Llorente"
This novel is so real that it seams that you are walking on the Birmingham streets. Dunning plays with his knowledge of the English language using very rich vocabulary; some descriptions are Poet's work. He also has a profound knowledge of the Human behavior and a strong historical background with a clear understanding of what is really happening in this Country; all the silent but brutal racial and religious conflicts. Overall, this is an excellent masterpiece that deserves to be in any best-seller's collection.

5A must-have for professionals and educators!  Feb 17, 2007
By S. W.
Who's Mack Oliver? weaves a fascinating tale of the convergence of culture, class, addiction and mental illness in a masterful way. The characters depicted represent not only individuals whom everyone has met at some point in their lives, but also personify stereotypes ever-present in the South. Dunning does a great job at depicting just how racism and prejudice emerge, and gives us hope for a better tomorrow. This is a great novel to invoke insightful and meaningful discussions among all groups of people, which is a great beginning to achieving understanding and tolerance in our culturally diverse world. I look forward to more literary works by this author. It is apparent that he knows his subject matter well and is passionate about his work.

5Fantastic Read With Excellent Character Development  Dec 08, 2008
By M. J. Meyer
Normally, I am not much of a reader. A friend recommended that I pickup a copy of "Who's Mack Oliver" and let me tell you, I could not put it down! One of those books that once you get into it you want to cancel every appointment so you can continue reading. The characters are well thought out and the plot will sink its teeth into you! A must read!

5Insightful and Thoughtful  Aug 16, 2007
By K. Dowdy
Mr. Dunning gives his readers insight to real people living in the South through his story of a fictional Mack Oliver, a man who finds himself in a real-life situation where he is unable to help himself. This book is more than a crime novel, as it explores and explains how people are perceived and treated differently because of their standing in society. His portrayal of the legal system's inadequate treatment of the mentally ill is very accurate.
