An Honest Portrayal, Full of Joy and Pain May 02, 2010
By Janiece Jonsin Candidly written, Wing and a Prayer is a chronological expose' of what it's like to be completely responsible for a loved one's final days on earth. Ms. Lovetti clearly shows us what unconditional love looks like in the most difficult of situations. She writes up-close and personal, in a graphically honest way about two sisters who are soul mates, soon to be forever separated by death. There is sadness to be sure, but all along the way there are sweet moments as well.
I gained so much by reading this book, but at the top of the list is understanding how painfully noble it is to physically care for another from the first horrific moment a terminal illness is confirmed, through the stages of bodily deterioration, and finally the end when the one you love is ready to release her attachment to life and make the transition.
Reading Ms. Lovetti's book has enriched my life.

Beautifully written with love and courage! Mar 03, 2010
By Calcote Wing and a Prayer is a courageously written novel about two sisters that share an unbreakable bond, even through the devastating experience of terminal illness. With an open heart, and skillful hand, the author documents the story of these women through letters written by the caregiving sister to the ailing sister. Author, Joanna Cappuccilli Lovetti, illuminates the dark shadows of this experience with hope, compassion, and most of all, love. The love and understanding these sisters share transcends all fear of death as they search for a cure and bravely face the merciless trials of terminal disease.
I would highly recommend this book to any person who has survived a loved one, as well as anyone seeking a deeper understanding of illness and treatment options. In sum, this story offers comforting messages from beyond, and insight on how we all may face life, and death, with fearlessness.

A WING AND A PRAYER Jan 29, 2010
By Thomasina Demaio
"Thomasina DeMaio"
Joanna's style led me into this tale gently, lovingly showing me all the compassion and the full range of emotions two sisters have for each other. she outlines almost everything one would expect to happen coping with a terminally ill patient. The mean money making hospital machine continues on a barbaric path while she and sister also try to incorporate alternative medicines with her therapies. I forget there are chapters as it is in written in letter forms, like a journal written for her sister recording silently this unspeakable thing that is happening to her.. to both of them for that matter. She gives us deep insight to what caretakers go through and need themselves to pull this whole thing together and allows us to see how the families decompensate and compensate, all normal behavior during these times and how they transcend petty fighting all for the love of Sophia. Maria the caretaker sister sacrifices her self to assist Sophia, advocating for her, making appointments, the calls...the questions..protecting her and assisting her to the next level...truly beautifully crafted and an important read
