Worried Wendy Goes to School

Beautifully illustrated, Worried Wendy Goes To School by Jenna Lumbard is a very special children’s story by a very special young woman. Charming and sweet, it introduces a young girl named Wendy who is heading to her first day of school. While she understands the concept, Wendy is not so sure about the particulars. She does not know the rules and she really does not know what to expect, which worries her tremendously. She thinks of a plan to get out of going, but Wendy’s mother knows all her tricks so there is no getting out of or around it. As Wendy puts one foot in front of the other, she learns that with a little faith and a few smiling children everything will be alright. Rhyming and lyric with bold illustrations, thinking about going to school just became fun.

5A children's book to help any kid get over the anxiety of the first day at school  May 27, 2009
By P. Elmer "lots of books"
This is the first in a series of easy to read children's books dealing with various hurdles in a young person's life. The author knows of many of these challenges herself, as she is a talented, non-verbal autsitic, who's world opened up with today's technology.
I am looking forward to the upcoming titles.

5A fantastic children's book about the ever-intimidating first day of school  May 26, 2009
By John Palmer
I had a chance to preview this book over the weekend, and it's awesome. It's a tale about the anxieties children face on the first day of school, written from a humorous and wholly unique perspective by a talented young writer with autism who clearly knows all too well how intimidating going to school can be - something all children can relate to. With brightly colored illustrations and written in easy-to-read verse, this is a great book for young kids and their parents, elementary/kindergarten/pre-school teachers and libraries, educators that work with autistic children, special education instructors, public libraries, etc.

3My review  Jun 07, 2009

I like the book, and when it was my first day at school I cried in the car. It makes me feel good that someone wrote a book about it. Alta, age 5

5Highly recommend this title  Jul 06, 2009
By E. Schumacher
A brilliant, insightful story about a young girl heading off to her first day of school. The author has done an outstanding job relating to the fears facing any young child, the book is beautifully intuitive and thoughtfully written, and the illustrations are fantastic. The author's own story is very compelling; I congratulate Ms. Lumbard on her achievement and look forward to future Wendy stories.
