War as an extension of politics Jan 01, 2012
By English Prof "Yellow Rose: A Story of an American War" is frighteningly prescient in its analysis of the divisions which exist between the right and the left in this country. In the book, Texas secedes from the Union and becomes a kind of magnet for conservatives and right wingers. At the same time, the rump of the country (minus Texas) is recognizably following the path Mr. Obama's party has set it on this Presidential term. What is truly scary here is that this book was written and published several years ago. The characters are fictional, but the policies pursued, by both Texas and the federal government, are all too real. I found it oddly compelling and surprisingly difficult to put down. If the premise seems a bit far fetched, the more so when you factor in the foreign aid that allows Texas to get away with building a military to protect its independence, it is, nonetheless, not difficult to suspend disbelief long enough to really appreciate a tale which sometimes becomes almost poignant as it describes the collapse of our nation based on deep ideological fissures which are all too apparent to modern readers. Strongly recommended to those who fear what we have become because it is easy to sympathize with events in the book while still being a worthwhile read for those who approve our present course but fear our deep divisions and the possible consequences associated with them.
Great Book! Feb 03, 2009
By Jake Legg This is a very good book...as well written, exciting and technically accurate as any of Tom Clancy's work. I really enjoyed it.
