Zombie Factory: 27 Tales of Bizarre Comix Madness from Beyond the Tomb

Shambling their way from forgotten moss-covered crypts and freshly dug graves, they haunt the pages of the most notorious monster magazines of the 1970's. These are the forgotten zombies of horror comics and like their cinematic brethren they have a taste for warm, moist flesh - YOURS!

Now, for the first time in over thirty years, IMP proudly unearths these gruesome tales from the pages of TERROR TALES, TALES FROM THE TOMB, TALES OF VOODOO, and THE WITCHES' TALES to release them on monster and comic fans alike.

"Nightmares and art meet in classic form. . . these comics will show you the meaning of fear!" -- Frank Schildener, THE RIGHT HAND OF DOOM: A STUDY OF HELLBOY

4So bad it's good.  Jun 07, 2009
Back in the 70's black and white horror mags were the forbidden fruit. At 75 cents to even (gasp!) 1.00 they were often just beyond my meager allowance so we often just read them at the corner drugstore and then put them back on the shelf. There were a few cut rate titles out there that were a little cheaper than the gold standard Creepy and Eerie. These are the books you will find reprinted here. Some stories have decent writing and some have decent art. Almost none have both at the same time. That said even though they are definitely B grade they manage in most cases to be so bad that they are good if that makes any sense. Very enjoyable even though some of it is so danged stupid it makes you wonder if they even HAD editors on these books. If this book represents some of the best these books had to offer imagine how incredibly suck the stuff that didn't make the grade was and despair. I loved this book!
One of my favorite aspects of these books was their love of eyes popping out of their sockets. They often found ways to make sure to have shots of severed heads not only flying through the air but also having their eyeballs popping out of their sockets. Maybe that is what the editors on these books did. "Uh Bob, I got the art on the new story and I was wondering if we could make one little change. Is there a way we could have the eyeballs popping out of the head flying through the air on page 3? Great Bob, thanks"

5Horrors in Half-Tone  Feb 17, 2009
A great assortment of black and white horror comics that feature all types of undead creatures resurrected from the silver age of comics. If your into comics don't pass this book up.

5A fun collection  Feb 16, 2009
Zombie Factory is a collection of the "factory seconds" of the horror comic industry of the Sixties. Not on the same level of artistic competence as the first rate publishers (like Marvel and Warren) but over all much more enjoyable.

5The Dead Walk in this Excellent Collection!  Feb 07, 2009
What a great idea! There are a lot of good classic horror comic compilations out there, reprinting the runs in chronological order, but this is the first time I've seen a themed collection of classic horror comic stories, and I couldn't be happier with it!

Every kind of zombie tale you can imagine is represented in this collection, and from a wide variety of vintage sources. The Tales of Voodoo reprints were a special treat for me, as I actually remember reading yellowed copies of these at an old friend's house during lazy summer afternoons. I hope the people behind this one come out with more themed comic reprints. This is two good of an idea to stop with just one!

2Willing to amend this...  Nov 12, 2008
Okay, I would love to be corrected on this! I got this book, excited by the content and the reviews. But I discovered that the only credits were for those who put the book together. There was no listing of writer or artist for any of the stories. Did I complete miss this? Did I just not see it?

As something as a comics' history buff, this was really disappointing to see. After all the hard work that went in to put this together, why nothing to note who did which stories?
