Royalties

What are royalties?

A royalty is the amount of money an author receives for each copy of his or her title that is manufactured and fulfilled by BookSurge through either a retail or wholesale channel.

How does your royalty structure work?

Authors earn a royalty of 35% of the list price on newly manufactured trade paperback books used to fulfill an order through one of our retail distribution channels, including Amazon.com, Abebooks.com and Alibris.com.*

Authors earn a royalty of 10% of the list price for newly manufactured trade paperback books and hardcover books used to fulfill an order through one of our wholesale distribution channels, including Baker & Taylor.

The selling price of the book is always set by the distribution channel or BookSurge. The author's royalty is always based on the list price he or she has set regardless of the selling price set by the distributor or us.

*Increase in royalty rates from 25% to 35% for newly manufactured trade paperback books used to fulfill an order through one of BookSurge's retail distribution channels effective February 1, 2008.

Author wholesale book orders

Author book orders, also called "wholesale book orders," are orders that authors place for multiple copies of their titles. Applicable discounts apply per volume of order.

Authors pay for author wholesale orders when they place the order. Authors don't earn royalties for author wholesale copies. Unless we have a valid resale certificate from the author in our system at the time of order, the author will be charged any applicable sales tax on wholesale orders.

Do you have an affiliate program?

No. However, authors who maintain their own web sites have the opportunity to earn additional funds on Amazon.com retail sales through the Amazon Associates program.

How are royalties paid?

Once we have received and processed an author's Royalty Payment Information Form, royalties are paid via direct deposit (electronic fund transfer) or via physical check. Direct deposit is encouraged and requires a US bank account. All payments are made in US dollars. There is a $10 minimum payment for direct deposit and a $25 minimum payment for physical checks.

When are royalties paid?

Royalty payments are made within 35 days after the end of the month in which the Book was manufactured. This is typically the last Friday of each month. Please note that payments are held until the author has accrued at least the applicable minimum payment ($10 for direct deposit; $25 for physical checks). This minimum payment is applicable each time royalty payments are made.

Can I track my royalties through your website?

Yes. Authors can view all royalty earnings through the BookSurge Global Publishing System (GPS), our unique, web-based software platform.
